Direct Funding Support to Women’s Shelter
The Women’s Foundation Nepal allocates a significant portion of its resources to support and operate its women’s shelter. This shelter provides a safe, secure, and supportive environment for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence, abuse, or trafficking.
Revenue from Samajik Ship Bikash Udhyog (SSBU)
Profits generated from the Samajik Sip Bikash Udhyog (SSBU), which produces ethically made, hand-crafted items such as scarves and garments, are reinvested into the Women’s Foundation Nepal. These profits help fund both the foundation’s core programs and the operational costs of the shelter.
Contribution from Sankalpa Homestay
Revenue generated through Sankalpa Homestay, an eco-friendly guesthouse operated by a WFN advisor, is directly utilised to support the WF shelter home. This social enterprise is an integral part of WFN’s self-sustainability model.
Employment Opportunities for Survivors
Women who have been supported by WFN or have resided in the WF shelter home are given priority opportunities for employment at the SSBU production centre. This provides them with financial independence, dignity, and a pathway to long-term empowerment.
Women’s Cooperative (Maheela Cooperative) A cooperative has been established for women employed at SSBU to promote savings, collective ownership, and financial inclusion. This cooperative foster economic stability and mutual support among its members.
Financial and Technical Support to Maheela Cooperative
The Women’s Foundation Nepal funds the position of an accountant and provides other necessary support to ensure transparent and effective financial management within the Maheela Cooperative.
Sankalpa Homestay as a Volunteer Hub
Sankalpa Homestay also serves as a home for international volunteers who come to Nepal to support the activities of WFN. The homestay provides these volunteers with a welcoming and immersive environment.

International volunteers residing at Sankalpa Homestay actively contribute their time, skills, and resources to WFN’s programs, enhancing capacity building, cross-cultural exchange, and global solidarity.

Sankalpa Homestay is nestled in the peaceful neighborhood of Boudha, Patitar, Kathmandu, adjacent to the Women’s Foundation Nepal. It offers a warm, culturally immersive environment for international volunteers who wish to experience Nepalese life in a meaningful and authentic way.
Volunteers staying at Sankalpa Homestay enjoy a comfortable private room, three nutritious meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), access to warm showers, and a welcoming, family-like atmosphere. Airport pickup can also be arranged upon request.
This homestay is more than just accommodation it is a cultural exchange hub. Volunteers are invited to learn about Nepal’s traditions, language, and way of life while sharing their own experiences and cultural knowledge in return.

Volunteering Opportunities with the Women’s Foundation Nepal (WFN)
Volunteering with WFN provides a unique opportunity to contribute to social change while gaining insight into Nepalese society. Whether on-site or remotely, there are various ways to get involved based on your interests, skills, and background.
1. WFN Central Office
The WFN office serves as the administrative heart of the organization. Volunteers are needed to support:
- Fundraising and donor outreach
- Proposal and report writing
- Editing and content creation
- Marketing and communications
- Website development and IT support
- Accounting and administrative tasks
Strong English skills are required, and prior experience in these areas is highly valued.
2. Maheela Textile Production Centre (SSBU)
This social enterprise produces ethically made textiles, with 60% of its profits reinvested into WFN programs. Volunteers can contribute in areas such as:
- Business development and strategy
- International sales and marketing
- Textile design and innovation
- Supply chain and procurement
- E-commerce and digital presence
We welcome individuals with relevant expertise who can help scale Maheela’s global outreach.
3. Women’s Shelter Home
Located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, the shelter provides a safe haven for women and children affected by abuse and violence. Volunteer roles include:
- Organizing creative activities (art, music, dance) for children
- Assisting with tutoring or English lessons (formal teaching qualifications preferred)
- Supporting informal education and play-based learning
- Providing practical help in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, sanitation, and healthcare
5. Remote Volunteering
For those unable to travel to Nepal, remote volunteering is a valuable way to support WFN from anywhere in the world. Key areas include:
- Fundraising and donor networking
- Identifying sponsors for shelter residents
- Promoting WFN initiatives within your community or networks
