Letters from Renu and the WFN staff . . .

A diary of social work in Nepal . . . September 1, 2008

The Letters from Renu on these pages detail an ongoing saga of abuse. WARNING: some letters have graphic descriptions which may be disturbing. These are stories of real people in terrible trouble. The good news is that there are many individuals who are working to set the world right in Nepal. WFN is one of the groups seeing to it that something is being done to help.

WFN gathers money and supplies for shipment to the flooded areas . . . You too can help . . .

Dry clothing goes a long way to help this father and his children. Food and bedding are still hard to get.Dear Supporters,

Right now we are preparing shipments of relief supplies for the flood victims of the Sapta Koshi embankment breaches in S. W. Nepal.  The good news is that some of the hardest hit have arrived on dry land and we have been able to get them dry clothing. (see photo to left)

The severity of the flood has left nearly 60,000 people remaining in areas with big difficulties. [Photographs] Yet life goes on.  Families still need to find shelter, gather food, clothing and bedding supplies.  Babies are still being born during the flood! [click for pop-up photo of a child born during the floods.]

Many kind and generous people have donated food or clothes - but it is hardly enough for all the flood victims in the worst areas.

Our district office in Sunsary reports that thetre are still large pockets of flooded areas where people have not received food or clothing.  Many of the flood victims in these devastated areas have received some basic support but no one has received blankets or quilts or any materials to cover them when they are sleeping. [Photographs]

Yesterday, the Women’s Foundation sent 15000 one hundred thousand Nepali ruppes  and 700 KG clothes which are collected from  the members and staff of WF  central office.

WF also paid 35000 rupies (about $775 USD) for transportation to bring the clothing and other suplies to the neediest of the flooded areas.  Our local district people in Sunsary are distributing  the items. Sunsary staff will purchase blankets and distribute them on Tuesday, September 2, 2008..

We received 100000. Nrs  from  Shangri-La Home who is helping the women and children in Nepal.  We thank them for their generous donation.

At this time, Tthe Women's Foundation of Nepal has 15 people are working directly to support the flood victims in S-E Nepal.

Yours sincerely,

Renu  Sharma
