Letters from Renu and the WFN staff . . .

A diary of social work in Nepal . . .June 6, 2008

The Letters from Renu on these pages detail an ongoing saga of abuse. WARNING: some letters have graphic descriptions which may be disturbing. These are stories of real people in terrible trouble. The good news is that there are many individuals who are working to set the world right in Nepal. WFN is one of the groups seeing to it that something is being done to help.

Dear  Brian

Namaskar

A strong storm caused this damage as the training house neared completion in Kathmandu.

The Women's Foundaiton is making a Shelter building for the women and children who are living at present in a rented Shelter. Truhand Germany has helped us to build the house.  It is a very strong house.

WF is also building a Training Center for training the women in various skills like weaving, showing, painting, food making etc. Because we can train the women they will have hope and a future.

The Training Center was made of brick and blocks. The roof was matel. When the Training Center was nearly finished, a strong wind blew the roof off and damaged the center in several parts.

There are three parts: the roof, the Iron supports, and the walls. Among three part two are  totally damaged. The roof is totally blown off.  The iron which supported the roof is also partly damaged and some parts of the wall are also damaged.

It appears that the reason for the damage is related to the fact that the center was newly made.  The cement was not fully cured. It takes time for the cement to cure and become strong.

The roof was in place, but the work of windows and doors was still being done.  Suddenly a big storm came blew the roof off. Some of the iron posts holding the roof were stronger ans so as the roof blew off it was twisted several times.  Some of the posts broke allowing the roof to rise and get blown off.. At the same time it damaged some parts of walls.

It is big loss. All of us are very sad

Renu
