Letters from Renu and the WFN staff . . .
A diary of social work in Nepal . . . January 18, 2008
The Letters from Renu on these pages detail an ongoing saga of abuse. WARNING: these letters have graphic descriptions which may be disturbing. These are stories of real people in terrible trouble. The good news is that there are many individuals who are working to set the world right in Nepal. WFN is one of the groups seeing to it that something is being done to help.
Skyrocketting costs cause deficit - need donations - sellers for woven goods
Dear Brian,
Namaskar
At the shelter, Chameli, a shelter women, became again very badly sick. She lost her mind. We brought her to a mental hospital in Asadeep(.pdf). Barbara is in the same place (a women who married a Nepali man 38 years ago but for the past 10 years she is living separately, She also has mental problems and WF is helping her). They made the hospital very expensive. We do not know how long she needs to stay at the hospital.
About the programs of WF: In 2008, we are again facing difficulties funding the clinic and legal support programs. Both of them are very important. In any cases we need to continue the legal programme because more than 270 cases are in court. All of us are discussion about the situation.
Maheela shop is in a deficit. Last year in 2007 we lost 188000. We are in very worried how to cover that lost. We wonder, will we lose the shop? Actually Maheela is cooperative. We want to make connection with Cooperative shop in any country. If you know some in that country please try to find it.
Many greetings lots of love and respect.
Renu
