USC Nepal Supports SchoolsSindhuli, 1996: USC Canada's work in Nepal is managed by a team of Nepali men and women who have the skills and knowledge to ensure that activities are sustainable from within the community. The focus of PEP (People's Empowerment Program) is to work in partnership with people to improve their living conditions. This is done by building on skills and helping to set in motion their own development projects. |
| USC Nepal initiated the PEP program to rebuild schools, swing bridges and trails after the 1989 earthquake. School enrollment has steadily grown and community involvement in supporting the schools has also increased.
Perched on a hillside, in one of Nepal's steepest valleys, the Mahdevdanda school stands out prominently in the distance as visitors enter the district of Sindhuli, Nepal. It is a schoopl supported by USC Nepal and PEP. Mahdevdanda School, which offers education up to grade eight, is the only school, covering half of the Sindhuli District, that is making an effort to increase enrollment in the higher grades. Close to 200 students attend, which is double the size and enrollment a mere six years ago. Read more about the USC Nepal at Mahdevdanda School in Sindhuli RETURN to USC main page |
